What you need to know
Rwanda is Known for its past and horrifying history, it has taken a center stage for remarkable stories of hope, the conservation areas have provided a vast spectacular experience in both game drives, primate trekking and nature walks thus making it one of the top destinations on African Continent.
Having arrived at your lodge the previous night, you will enjoy your breakfast delicacy before starting your journey, you will visit the Ntarama Church, where mass killings occurred during the 1994 genocide. The church was a deaths site for more than 5,000 people and to this day it remains a powerful reminder of the horrifying scenes that took place 30 years ago during the genocide.
From her you will then proceed to Nyamata Church, where a further 2,500 people were massacred during the genocide. The same church was also closely associated with the barbaric treatment of women during the genocide, at this church you will learn more about the incidences of the of mass rape, brutalization, and even the horrific use of HIV as a weapon of genocide.
You will visit the Mayange village, to know where the revolutionary project to reconcile the perpetrators and survivors of the 1994 Genocide by having them live side by side is underway. You will go on a guided tour of the village learning about how the healing process between victims and perpetrators is taking place.
Lunch with the locals will be served as you proceeding with your tour in the Reconciliation Village visiting the art gallery, heath centers, schools. You will continue on to Musanze to overnight after your action-packed day.
Having relaxed the previous night, you will drive to the park headquarters early morning where you will be briefed, before starting your trekking adventure into the forest. The trekking activity can last between4 to 5 hours depending on the family group you are trekking and the weather conditions of the day and also the fact that you are trekking at a higher altitude.
You will spend an hour of close contact with the gorillas once you've found them.
Once your time with the gorillas is done, you'll return to your hotel for lunch. As an extra activity in the afternoon, you can pay a visit to the beloved Gorilla Guardian Village to learn more about Rwanda's pre-colonial past. In a series of demonstrations and interactive activities, to learn about everything from traditional medicine to warfare.
In the morning you will trek the primates such as the golden monkeys, and other inhabitants that live here. Through the bamboo forests, you will trace the playful sounding monkeys. You will spend an hour with the monkeys before returning to your lodge for lunch. You will later return to your lodge for lunch from where you will embark on your scenic drive to Lake Kivu for an overnight stay overnight stay.
Having spent a night in lake Kivu, you will take a morning boat tour to explore the lake. Kayaking is a more amazing activity to enjoy. After the time on the lake, you will have a walk in the fishing villages.
Lunch will be served at your lake location as you continue to engage the communities on an afternoon. You will later enjoy the sunset cruise on the lake with an opportunity to explore both the quaint colonial town, you could as well take a deep swim in the fresh waters. You will retire at your lodge for an overnight stay.
From a full exploration of Lake Kivu and having spent a night at your lodge, you will wake up to a tasty breakfast on Lake Kivu and then return to Kigali.
Upon arrival in the Rwandan capital, you'll enjoy a half-day city tour to the Natural History Museum, the haunting Genocide Memorial, and the local craft markets. You will be heading for your connecting freight later in the evening.
