Well known as “land of a thousand hills,” because of her terrain, the country’s landscape is mostly hilly and mountainous. Comprised of the Virunga Mountains which are located in the northwestern part of the country, it is in this mountainous part of the country the Virunga that is a home to mountain gorillas and other animal species that live in the Volcanoes national park.
Rwanda lies in the proximity of 223Kms south of the equator and with her altitude lying in between 1000 & 4507 metres above sea level lowest and highest respectively, this provides favorable good weather of highest 30 degrees Celsius highest and 15 degrees Celsius lowest which makes Rwanda a good country in terms of weather.
Among other conservation areas, Rwanda has got Akagera, Nyungwe and Gishwati mukura national parks that act as a dock for tourism activities. Known for its past and horrifying history, it has taken a center stage for remarkable stories of hope, the conservation areas have provided a vast spectacular experience in both game drives, primate trekking and nature walks thus making it one of the top destinations on African Continent.

Volcanoes National Park

Volcanes National Park popularly known for Gorillas is Located in the northwest part of the country Rwanda, the park acts as a home to the endangered mountain gorilla species. The Park is named after the chain of dormant volcanoes that makes up the Virunga Massif and they are mountains are Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura ranges.

Nyungwe Forest

With its rich biodiversity, Nyungwe is highlighted among the oldest forests in Africa, it’s a home to some of Africa’s Primate species The park has a good number of trails and trekking spots. Many birders converge here for birding excursions because the park is rich with many species of birds. The fact that it is oldest in age, it favors explorers and adventurers who would love to make their experiments. You will not miss to experience the memorable canopy walk on the magnificent suspension bridge, the Isumo waterfall and the photo moments to spice up your adventure.

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park will enable you to activate your safari drives in Rwanda, the park is largely formed by dry savanna, wetland and some lakes. You will enjoy your game drive as you trail for Africa’s Big five and other land mammals. The dry savannah, lakes and swampy vegetation will typically set a perfect safari experience of a life time.

Gishwati Mukura National Park

The park is formed by two separate forests, Gishwati and Mukura, which form a total of 34 square kilometres. The forests sit on the ridge that divides Congo and Nile water catchment areas. The forests are made up of around species of tree, which include indigenous hardwoods and bamboo trees. Gishwati national park is home to some primate species like cchimpanzees, golden monkeys, and Blue Monkeys. The park is a good destination for birders where by it supports a total of 395 species of birds have been sighted in these forests. Activities include guided nature hike, guided chimp tracking and bird watching.

Lake Kivu

Lying in the great western rift valley, Lake Kivu is the 6th biggest lake in Africa covering a space of 2,700 km2.
