Machame Route

Machame route is considered to be the most beautiful and scenic of all the routes that lead to the rooftop of Mount Kilimanjaro, it is so ideal to those hikers who would love to have more of adventure, the route is appropriate for more adventurous hikers wishing to have a more physical demanding climb than Marangu or Rongai. The route is most breath taking and contains some tough climbing which rewards those who prepare and endure.

Depending on where you will have relaxed for your previous night, Arusha or Moshi, you will be picked after breakfast and head for your expedition Preliminaries. You will then proceed with your expedition to Machame camp at 3000 meters which will take you 5 -6 hours. At this point you will relax, refresh and have an overnight.

Upon waking up, you will enjoy your morning breakfast as usual before advancing for Shira camp, this will be a short hike of the day as you pass through the lush forest and scrubby moorland. The hike will land you at Shira camp in the afternoon for lunch, you will have time to relax as you gaze at the stunning views of Kibo glacier from the Shira Plateau.

Heading for the Lava Tower (4,640m) will be the goal of the day which you will embark on after your morning breakfast and this will be an iconic landmark. Having ascent, the 700m to the Lava Tower you will again descend gradually towards Barranco Camp which is at 4,500m. You will then camp at the scenic Barranco Camp which is Considered the most beautiful of all of the camps on Kilimanjaro, you will camp at Barranco for an evening.

Leaving Barranco camp in the morning, you will meet sharp climbs that day as you navigate on the Barranco walls happening to be a rock-climbing mode. After this, you will continue for another 3-4 hours until where you will camp in the Karanga Valley for lunch and afternoon relaxation. You will then proceed for another 2-3 hours until you reach Barafu Camp, you will relax for an overnight at Barafu camp as you prepare for the big day of the summit.

Your climbing team will wake you up to start on your last segment of the summit, you will wake up earlier after midnight to prepare for your adventure ahead. You will hike in darkness for 5 to 6 hours, only to arrive at Stella Point a few hours before dawn. And from here, you will intensely hike for another two hours before reaching ultimate goal Uhuru Peak, the climax of your expedition. You will Stand at 5,985m and experience a spectacular sunrise and take in the panoramic views at the rooftop of Africa. After a memorable photo moment, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for lunch and Celebration. You will continue downhill for an overnight at Mweka Camp.

You will enjoy the last breakfast on the mountain before descending to the Mweka Gate where you will celebrate with your porters and guides and collect your certificate of completion. You will then be driven to Moshi or Arusha for an extended rest.
