Mount Rwenzori, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, is a mountain range located on the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is the highest mountain range in Africa and is home to several peaks, including Margherita Peak, which is the highest point at 5,109 meters (16,763 feet) above sea level. The Rwenzori Mountains are known for their stunning glaciers, unique plant and animal species, and challenging hiking and climbing opportunities.
Early in the morning after your warm breakfast, having arrived in kasese the previous night, you will move to Nyakalengija which is 1646 meters above sea level where you will start your hike into the mountains of the moon. You will move along River Mubuku and through impenetrable equatorial vegetation before arriving at the Nyabitaba hut (2650 meters). You may encounter chimpanzees and see blue monkeys. You will have dinner and overnight in Nyabitaba hut, having hiked for 5-7 hours.
After an early warm breakfast, it will be yet another expedition as you hike through the Kurt Sharfer Bridge to marvel at the sparkling Mubuku river confluence. In the hours of the afternoon you will arrive at the Nyamuleju hut from where you may come into full enjoyment to the views of Mount Stanley and Speke. Climbing through the open patches, lobelia, and heath moss forest you will proceed up to the John Matte hut which is at 3415 meters above sea level. At this level, Dinner and staying an overnight will happen having ascended 915 meters for 7 hours.
Very early in the morning, you will hike further through the giant Lobelias and heath trees as you ascend to the Bigo Bog and scenic landscape of lobelias and giant groundsels. From here, you will pass lake Bujuku, which is between the famous mountains. You will move further to a rock shelter called Cooking Pot and not far you will arrive at the final stop for today the Bujuku Hut which is at 3960 meters above sea level. Dinner will be served and overnight having ascended for 3 to 5 hours.
Off from Bujuko Hut, you will head through the valley with beautiful alpine vegetation consisting Giant Groundsels and Lobelia, continue to ascend to Mount Victoria and Mount Speke at 4890 meters. Departing through the scenic views of the Savoia and Elena glaciers, you will scale further through to the Scott Elliott pass advancing through the snow to the Elena Hut which is at 4560 meters above sea level. Arriving at this level which happens to be your final level as you Conquer Rwenzori, You will have dinner and an overnight at Elena Hut.
Your Early Morning Expedition starts after midnight and this will lead you to the snowcapped Alexander peak settling at 5092 meters above sea level. From here you will proceed to the famous Margherita highest peak at 5109 meters above sea level. This will be your final ascending expedition. You will capture the memories with a photo moment and from there you will descend directly to the beautiful lake Kitandara for overnight stay and Dinner and celebration having conquered Rwenzori. At Kitandara hut you will be siting at at 4020 meters above sea level.
From your warm early morning breakfast before we begin a long descent, first we will climb from Lake Kitandara to the Freshfield Pass from where you can have a view into the neighboring country Democratic Republic of Congo. We will have a picnic lunch on the way and continue our journey while descending to the Guy Yeoman hut 3260 meters above sea level. It’s at this point after descending for 7 hours, you will settle for dinner and overnight.
