West Tsavo & Amboseli

What you need to know

The name Amboseli in Maa (Masai language) means place of water, and it reveals its true nature. In its swamps live massive herds of elephants and are likely to pose a show for you while on a game drive. You will observe hippos, zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, warthogs, buffaloes, wildebeest, and gazelles without forgetting all the predators like lions, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas lingering around will be available to be sighted.
Many Species of birds like flamingoes, cormorants, storks, and ostriches will be available for tourists.

This park is named after the river Tsavo, that flows from west to east through the national park, and is divided by road and rail from Tsavo East, Tsavo West national park covers a a total area of 9.000 kilometres and offers a variety of landscapes, vegetation, and wildlife. It is quite mountainous and wet, with swamps.

Within the abundance of wildlife, there’s a black rhino sanctuary. So you are likely to see the critically endangered eastern black rhinoceros and the rest of the big five - the lions, giant elephants, cape buffalos, and leopards. Tall necks of the biggest giraffes in Africa, cute bushbabies, herds of hartebeest, cheetah, wild dogs, crocodiles, and much more are just waiting for you to admire! Thanks to its topography, Tsavo West offers also excellent rock-climbing opportunities.  

Having arrived in Nairobi the previous night you will be picked from your hotel to embark on a 4-hour drive to Amboseli national Park. You will pass through attractive indigenous villages dotting the Athi plains, and there are chances to spot some unexpected wildlife on the way.

Surely the playing elephants will impress you, bathing, caring for each other, feeding. It is a guaranteed lifetime memory! Lions, cheetahs, and other predators praying in a stakeout while unsuspecting peaceful herbivores graze in the immediate vicinity could catch their dinner just in front of you. Countless bird species above and around, flamingoes, ostriches, and hippos just there. A lot to see, and you are likely to see it all!
All the admiring will surely make you hungry to only relaxing for your hot lunch at an observation point. We’ll go on with the afternoon game drive, before retreating to your lodge late evening for dinner and overnight. 

Having spent a night in Amboseli you will be woken up by the morning dawn with a beautiful breakfast, you will embark on a safari vehicle and head for the Tsavo West National Park. The way will lead you through a visibly changing landscape, overlooked by all those tall mountains with Kilimanjaro as the head. upon entering the Tsavo West, get ready to see the red elephants, large prides of lions, some of them hanging in the acacias, small mammals all around, with tall giraffes and buffalos easily grazing - some on the floor, some in the treetops. You will check in at your Lodge for relaxation.

Having been woken up by the morning dawn & sunrise, you will head for an early morning game drive at the Tsavo West National Park. You will visit the charming Mzima springs and marvel at all the greenery surrounding these underground sources of clear water. You will encounter hippos, crocodiles, birds, many of them exotic migratory ones, and fish. We will round up the experience by visiting the famous Shetani lava flow and enjoying the breathtaking views of the snow-peaked Kilimanjaro in the distance. In the afternoon, you will bid farewell to Tsavo East as you head back to Nairobi for relaxation of connecting freight.
